Back in May as we completed our research for Walk! Madeira, we met with the Madeira Times walking writer Shirley Whitehead. Visitors to Madeira will know Shirley's enthusiastic style and intimate local knowledge. We all hit it off immediately in agreeing that walking should be an exercise in enjoyment. The result is Shirley re-writing, and re-walking, her Madeira Times articles into a book of 20 walks which we have designed into a 112 page full colour guide book in a pocketable paperback size.

Map sections are adapted from our Tour & Trail Map, re-drawn to show Shirley's routes and re-sized to 1:25,000 scale. Loads of photos illustrate aspects of the walks.

As a departure from our current style there is no gps and we have kept Shirley's individual writing style. We're sure you'll love this addition
to Madeira's walking tradition. Four, or five, of the twenty routes are common to Walk! Madeira but obviously told in different style with the bulk of Shirley's routes concentrating on the West and Centre of the island.

The result of Shirley's research and writing combined with our design is a beautifully pocketable book that provides a wealth of information for leisure walkers with particular emphasis on levada walking on the West of Madeira, a region overlooked by most guide books.
