Its 2009 so it must be new editions of our Walk! Menorca guide book and Menorca Tour & Trail Map. The new 2nd edition of Walk! Menorca continues our policy of adding some more adventurous walking though we have also lost our route from Es Migjorn Gran down to Sant Tomas due to landowner closures plus unfortunately the military have reoccupied Lluc al Lari making this civil war fort out of bounds.

Generally the news for walkers is good with us adding longer routes such as Cala Galdana to Ferreries which includes an exciting entry into the Galdana gorge, which is also used by our new Ciutadella to Ferreries linear route. We've another 'must do' walk from Cala Galdana to Sant Tomas, quite tough but taking in little known bays and beaches; walk it one way in the morning then lunch at the beach bar before Sant Tomas, then return in the afternoon. A number of routes have detailed updating, those near Mao having changes due to the expansion of the industrial estate, while further north we're making Torre Blanca a linear 'there and back' route as our original circular was largely on private farmland and was becoming so popular it was in danger of prejudicing the access.

We had expected good news from all the publicity surrounding the 'Cami de Cavalls' but the proposed opening, or reopening, of this 'round the island' walking, cycling, and horse riding route is rather more proposals than actions, as we found when trying to discover some of the proposed route. Some sections have been opened including giving us a new Cap de Favaritx to Torre Blanca route and an alternative ending to our Es Mesquida to Es Grau route though our original route is much more scenic. Elsewhere the Cami de Cavalls has adopted our walking routes south of Mao but the west and north of Ciutadella has yet to see any of the proposals implemented. Perhaps we'll be able to report progress when we get to a third edition.
